This privacy policy explains how the CableBox mobile application (“CableBox”, “the app”, “we”, “us”, “our”) handles information when you use it. CableBox is developed and operated by D. Jeffery t/a CableBox.app (“the operator”), a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. If you have any questions about this policy or about how your information is handled, you can contact hello@cablebox.app.
CableBox is designed to collect as little data as possible. The app stores your saved circuits, settings, and progress only on your own device. It does not require an account, does not transmit your circuits or activity to any server we control, and does not share any personal data with third parties.
01What information CableBox collects and processes
Information stored only on your device
The following information is stored locally on your phone and never leaves it:
- Circuits you create and save, including their names, structure, and the date saved
- Your progress through the in-app challenges, including which challenges you have completed
- App settings and preferences
- Your acceptance of the in-app disclaimer
This information is stored using the standard Android storage mechanisms (shared_preferences and the app's private storage area). It is not transmitted off your device. Uninstalling the app removes all of this data.
02Information we do not automatically collect
CableBox does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following without your explicit action:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any other contact details
- Your location
- Your contacts, photos, or other personal files
- Account credentials (the app has no account system)
- Usage analytics, behavioural tracking, or telemetry
- Crash reports or diagnostic data
- Advertising identifiers or any data used for advertising
03Information you choose to send us via Feedback
The app provides “Suggest a feature” and “Report a bug” options in Settings. Tapping these opens your device's email composer, pre-filled with your message and a small block of technical context: the app version, your Android version, your device manufacturer, and your device model. This context helps us understand and reproduce any issues you report. The email is sent only when you tap send in your own email app — you can review it, edit it, or cancel it at any point before then.
When you send a feedback email:
- The email and its contents are received by us at hello@cablebox.app.
- Your email address is visible to us (it's the address you sent from).
- We use this information solely to respond to your feedback and improve the app. We do not use it for marketing, do not share it with third parties, and do not add it to any mailing list.
- You can ask us to delete any feedback you've sent us by emailing hello@cablebox.app with the subject “Delete my feedback”. We will remove it from our records within 30 days.
The lawful basis for this processing under UK GDPR is legitimate interest (responding to user feedback to improve the app).
04Information collected by Google Play
When you install or use CableBox from the Google Play Store, Google itself collects certain information independently of us, including your device type, Android version, language, country, and aggregate install / uninstall data. This information is collected and processed by Google under Google's own privacy policy, available at policies.google.com/privacy. We can see aggregate, anonymised reports about installs and uninstalls in our Google Play Console, but we cannot identify individual users from this data.
05Why we process the limited information we do
The information stored on your device is processed for the sole purpose of providing the app's functionality — saving your circuits, tracking your challenge progress, and remembering your preferences. The lawful basis under UK GDPR is the performance of a contract (providing the app's features to you, as a user of the app).
07Children and young users
CableBox is intended for use by electrical apprentices, trainees, and qualified professionals. While the app does not collect any personal data and is suitable for all ages from a content perspective, the audience is primarily aged 16 and over. If you are a parent or guardian and have concerns about your child using the app, please contact us at the address above.
08Security
Because CableBox does not transmit your data off your device, the security of that data depends primarily on the security of your device itself. We recommend using a screen lock and keeping your Android operating system up to date.
The app's source code is maintained using industry-standard tools and practices. The app is signed with a developer key controlled solely by the operator.
09Your rights
Because CableBox does not hold personal data about you on any system we control, most data protection rights (the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection) do not apply to data we do not hold. To erase any data the app has stored on your device, simply uninstall the app or use Android's “Clear data” function in the app's settings.
If you believe we are processing personal data about you that you have not been informed of, please contact us at hello@cablebox.app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
10Changes to this policy
As CableBox is actively developed, we may add features in the future that involve collecting limited information (for example, anonymised crash reporting to improve app stability, or anonymised usage analytics to understand which features are most used). If any such feature is added, this policy will be updated before the feature is enabled, and a notice will be shown in the app the first time you encounter it. The “Last updated” date at the top of this policy will always reflect the most recent revision.
